DESIGN MANAGEMENT ANALYSES BRINGS IMPROVEMENTS TO ATLAS PAINT BRUSHES
Atlas Brushes has a design department responsible for developing and revising its entire product portfolio, which ranges from painting brushes to tools. We were called to help Atlas understand whether the efforts and investments made in design were sufficient, efficient and effective for the company. It also wanted to know what more they could do to improve how they work and reduce losses in time and productivity.
THE BENCHMARKING WITH OTHER COMPANIES OF SIMILAR SIZE, PRODUCT
AND MARKET, ALLOWS A SOLID EVALUATION OF THE DESIGN
MANAGEMENT PERFORMANCE ON THE COMPANY.
We use our own methodology combining Design Benchmark and Design Diagnostics to approach this case. These tools allow us to have a holistic and detailed overview of all design aspects within the company.
On the first stage, 211 design metrics were analysed on benchmark report about the company’s design and management practices in comparison with other businesses of similar size, products and market. The findings that were of greatest interest to Atlas were then taken to the second stage. In this next level, we prepared an interactive exercise with the team where about 70 practical solutions were presented. The solutions that were selected by them were adapted and compiled into an action plan.
Our work brought improvement into Atlas’ design department and productivity, as well as convinced the company to progress with their plans to invest further in design. Currently Atlas is establishing its own user research lab based on the findings of the exercise.
