WAP ESTABLISHES PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AND BECOMES A BRAZILIAN REFERENCE IN DESIGN USE
For the development of its products, WAP used to hire external designers and design consultancies. However it recognised the need to develop its own design capacity
in order to raise the standard of its products, improve new product processes
and homogenise the product range.
AFTER CONDUCTING A DESIGN DIAGNOSTIC, WE DRAWN A STRATEGIC PLAN THAT LEAD THE ENTIRE COMPANY TOWARDS A PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT CULTURE.
We started this project by applying our own Design Diagnostic tool, which allows us to visualise all aspects of design use by the company. This was followed up with the best practice exercise, which resulted in a wish list of design and management practices for the company.
From all the suggestions, establishing an internal design department was chosen by WAP as the action with higher implementation priority. The benchmark report and best practice case cards were instrumental in informing other senior members of the WAP board about the challenge ahead for them. In addition, we monitored the implementation of WAP’s design department through in-house consultancy.
Today, WAP is recognized for its success in managing design, which has had a positive impact on the products’ sales and on establishing an image of reference in quality products. The gained stability also made it possible for the company to expand the product portfolio, develop new product parts and improve existing products.
