STUDY TRACES A DESIGN DIAGNOSIS

OF PARANÁ COMPANIES

Evaluating the impact of a design program is a challenge that requires data collection and analysis. Knowing this, Centro Brasil Design (CBD) asked us to monitor and analyse the impact of the Paraná Innovative Program, in order to present a detailed report to their partner and funder of the program, the Secretary of Science, Technology and Higher Education (SETI).

THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT WHILE 57% OF THE INDUSTRIES HAVE A

LOW INVESTMENT AND RETURN ON DESIGN, 10% MAKE HIGH INVESTMENTS

AND HAVE HIGH RATES OF RETURN.

To evaluate the success of this initiative, we proposed performing design diagnosis for each company at the start and end of their participation in the program. To make these diagnoses, we used our Design Diagnostics tool.

During the process, 40 companies answered an extensive questionnaire, allowing us to develop individual reports. These had specific analysis on the business’s level of design management capability, the impact of design on innovation, their main design strengths and weaknesses, along with recommendations for practical actions for effective and efficient use of design.

The investigation of more than 200 metrics allowed us to deliver to CBD and SETI a general report with statistically tested data indicating the program’s impact. The document (which is available for download) also includes an overview about the use of design, its management and performance in Paraná companies.

In addition, the analyses conducted also helped to address future challenges and attention points for future programs developed by CBD.
